Description

  • Carlo Manieri
  • Still lifes of grapes, pears and peaches on a forest floor
  • a pair, both oil on canvas
  • each: 66.3 x 49.5 cm.; 26 1/8  x 19 1/2  in.

Condition

In overall good condition. The canvases are lined, the paint surfaces are dirty and the varnishes are discoloured. The former painting has four horizontal superficial scratches across the upper half of the painting (visible in the catalogue illustration). Both canvases have some paint losses and associated retouchings scattered along all four margins, particularly on the upper right margin of the latter painting (not visible in the catalogue illustration). Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the thick milky varnishes, beneath which sparse spots of retouching are visible. A repaired damage, measuring approx. 1 by 1 cm., is in the lower centre of the former painting, in the grapes.
