Condition

The canvas has a firm relining, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is quite clear and even. The ground has become more visible in some areas of the sky, particularly on the left-hand side. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals what look like wash retouchings through the sky, but very little other intervention, save for retouching to a diagonal scratch in the sky, upper right, measuring 6 cm., and to a very small scratch, centre left, measuring 2 cm. There are very fine small lines of retouching in some of the clouds and around the figures lower left, but the painting is in overall good condition.
