Condition
The canvas has been lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is slightly discoloured. The painting is in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals that the painting is largely untouched, with very few and minor scattered retouchings in the shadows around the horse’s hooves and the jockey’s feet in the foreground; to an extremely fine, superficial scratch in the sky just above the horse; and in the horse’s hind legs, and just above its front legs.
