Condition

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is discoloured. The painting is in overall fair condition. The canvas appears slightly worn in the dark pigments, most notably along the lower edge. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick varnish underneath which it is possible to discern retouchings in the dark areas just mentioned, most notably two 6 x 6 and 6 x 3 cm. along the lower right margin, as well as scattered in the centre of the floral composition. There are further retouchings below the blue ribbon on the right where the paint is slightly starting to flake in two areas, with two further retouched spots of paint loss below that.
