Condition

The copper plate is flat and stable. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is slightly discoloured. There are a few scattered tiny spots of paint loss, most of which are in the lower half of the composition. There is a faint, diagonal surface scratch across the tree trunk centre right, which is visible under raking light. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick varnish underneath which only a handful of retouchings are visible: along the lower left margin, and at the top of the tree trunk along the central upper margin. In overall good condition. Offered in a parcel gilt frame in good condition.
