The panel is supported by a series of small horizontal batens. The right hand side of the panel has split in a 3.5 cm. section (visible in the catalogue illustration). The paint surface is dirty and the varnish is very discoloured. There are small losses along the right-hand margin from old woodworm, and other small, scattered losses along the left-hand margin and in her left shoulder. The Madonna's robe is moderately worn, with remains of old varnish and some over-paint. The paint surface has also thinned somewhat in some of the flesh tones of the putti and the Christ child Himself. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small, scattered retouchings along the split but otherwise little other intervention. In overall fair condition.
