marked with the French crowned C control mark

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is some rubbing to the lacquer patina at the high points. There is some flaking to the patina in areas, including in the face. There is reddish colour to the front of the proper right foot. There is dust in the crevices throughout.

Catalogue Note

The crowned C was a French tax mark struck on bronzes over a certain weight between February 1745 and February 1749. The 'C' stands for cuivre (copper), the principal component in the bronze alloy.
