  • Tankard with a Bacchanal
  • the silver stamped twice with a crowned V
  • ivory, with gilt silver mounts
  • tankard: 14cm., 5½in. ivory flask: 6cm., 2 3/8in. pax: 14 by 8cm., 5½ by 3 1/8 in. 
  • Netherlandish or German, 17th century
together with: a German ivory powder flask, 17th/18th centuryand: a Netherlandish ivory pax with the Crucifixion, 15th century

Condition

Tankard: Overall, the condition of the ivory is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is stable splitting to the ivory, including a larger open but stable split running vertically through the relief. There are a few minor splits to the lower edge of the ivory. There are also a few minor losses to the lower edge. The condition of the silver is very good, with some rubbing to the gilding, particularly at the high points. The lid is very slightly warped. Pax: Overall, the condition is good, with dirt and wear to the surface, consistent with age. There is yellowing to the ivory throughout, consistent with the material. There are a few very minor losses, in particular to the top edge. There is rubbing to the ivory, in particular at the high points. There are two small holes at the top of the cross. There is minor stable splitting to the ivory, including to sides. There is a separately carved ivory stand to the back. Flask: Overall the condition of the ivory is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including very minor splitting, some darkening around the edges, and some yellowing.
