Condition

Overall, the condition of the alabaster is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The Virgin and Child may originally have had crowns which are now lost. There is veining to the alabaster, consistent with the material, including some slightly open veins to the Virgin's body above her proper right arm, to the drapery around her proper right leg and to her back at the centre. There is a further slightly dark vein to the Christ Child's proper left wrist. There are minor chips and abrasions to the surface in areas, including some small chips around the base. There are minor traces of gilding and polychromy, including to the faces and to the drapery at the bottom.
