Condition

The canvas is either thinly lined or unlined. Underneath an old varnish an elaborate scene reads well, though the paint appears to have thinned over time. A tiny dot of loss is on the ground at bottom center, closer to the right side. A very faint stretcher bar mark runs along the bottom. What could be a small, concentrated area from old rubbing is at bottom center. There appears to be a thin repair that runs diagonally for 5in. on the sky at center left. Inspection under UV reveals scattered inpainting of retouches throughout the ground and sky. There is probably further retouches that are difficult to read due to the dirty varnish. Painting is offered in an elaborately carved giltwood frame.
