Catalogue Note

Jan Anton Garemyn was a Flemish painter from the 18th century known for his picturesque landscapes and townscapes. Although one can admire Garemyn’s skills as a landscapist in the present lot, what is most interesting is how he asserts himself as a capable Rococo artist with the playful scene he develops in the foreground.

Each putti represented is highly animated and exaggerated, which was typical in Rococo paintings. Furthermore, the ornate details that surround the putti become both functional and decorative, as they help the viewer decipher which season the pair relates to while at the same time enhancing its design.
