Catalogue Note

This drawing may be added to a small and stylistically homogeneous group of figure drawings by Ferraù Fenzoni, drawn in either black or red chalk. This group includes several drawings in the Uffizi in Florence1 and two sheets in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan,2 as well as a study of a Seated Monk Shielding His Eyes in the Biblioteca Comunale in Fermo3 and a Kneeling Monk in Prayer in the Albertina in Vienna.4 Other drawings have appeared on the art market in recent years.5 All of these drawings are characterized by a robust handling of stumped chalk, abbreviated contours and a particularly expressive treatment of hands. 1.
