oil on canvas A modern copy after a drawing of 1765/66 by Canaletto in the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. Condition

All paintings available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 5 - 7 and 10 – 13 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment. The canvas has a firm relining, the paint surface is dirty, and the varnish is discoloured. Discoloured retouching is visible throughout the sky, and this extensive campaign is confirmed following inspection under ultraviolet light. The architectural elements and figures however are largely free of any restoration.
