Catalogue Note

This handsome figure study has not been connected to a surviving painting, though the sensitive handling of the red chalk medium and the distinctive hatching in the drapery and areas of the figure's hair, suggest that an attribution to the Sienese artist Ventura Salimbeni is sustainable.
