Catalogue Note

This beautifully preserved drawing dates to the early 1830s and was created with a masterful combination of black ink and scratching out. Other examples of Constable employing this expressive and avant garde technique can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Works such as these rarely appear on the market, although, on 5 July 2017, Windmill with Storm Clouds was sold at Sotheby's and achieved £32,500.2
