Catalogue Note
By inscribing this watercolour The Glow Worm Society, Rowlandson was not referring to a London dining club, but instead to the term Glow Worm which, in late Georgian Britain, was understood to mean: 'a proud foole or an arrant asse.' We are grateful to Neil Jeffares for his help when cataloguing this lot.
