Catalogue Note

Handel's Radamisto was his first opera for the Royal Academy of Music, and "by far the finest opera seria hitherto heard in London" (Dean).  "The serious tone and powerfully motivated action mark a decisive break from the more carelessly assembled operas [of the] previous decade" (Hicks). Premiered at the King's Theatre on 27 April 1720, a substantially revised version was staged on 28 December, including the aria 'Barbaro partirò' and the duet 'Non ò più affanni', occasioning the Arie aggiunte di Radamisto.
