Sale, Christie's South Kensington, 11th December 2008, lot 363, where acquired by the present owner

Condition

The canvas is original. There are some fine lines of craquelure in the upper right corner. There are fine, scattered lines of reticulation in places throughout the canvas, in particular in the thicker areas of paint. There is some undulation in the paint surface in the thicker areas, however, this is in keeping with the Artist's materials and working methods. There is some light rubbing and light possible abrasions to the extreme corners and edges due to the work being unframed. There is some light surface dirt in places. This excepting the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a few areas of fluorescence that appear in to be in keeping with the Artist's materials and do not suggest retouching. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
