Catalogue Note

‘I’ve never really finished, in my mind, the Crucifixions…. There comes a time when the painting’s finished but you’re not necessarily finished with the subjects and I was always striving to get it right, so that I could not paint crucifixions. But I could not do it’ (Craigie Aitchison, Author Interview, Terry Danziger Miles, 1st February 2012, reproduced in Cate Haste, Craigie Aitchison, Lund Humphries, Aldershot, 2014, p.181)
