Condition

The canvas appears original. The extreme upper left corner of the canvas is slightly uneven, in line with where the canvas has been stretched, with further more minor unevenness at the upper right corner. There is a pattern of very fine lines of reticulation to the thinner black pigment in the lower right and lower left quadrants, only visible upon close inspection. There are two thin, short and faint lines of cracking to the central blue area, one close to the waist of the red figure on the left and the other towards the lower edge, only visible upon close inspection. There are one or two light scuffs in places, including to the centre of the blue area and the centre of the lower edge. There is some light surface dirt and a few instances of studio detritus and surface matter in places. This excepting, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals two instances of isolated retouching to the red in the lower quadrant and to the black in the lower left quadrant, that have been sensitively executed. The work is floated in a stained wooden box frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
