Condition

Original canvas. There is very minor undulation in the bottom left and upper right corners, only visible upon extremely close inspection. There is some very minor rubbing to all four corners, perhaps in line with a previous framing, and a tiny fleck of reticulation to the red pigment of the sitter's lips, and a further tiny spot of craquelure to the sitter's forehead. There is surface dirt. This excepting the work appears in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals a few scattered traces of fluorescence and probable retouching to the upper right quadrant, with two further isolated flecks, the first to the middle of the left hand edge, and the second to the lower centre. These have all been very sensitively executed. Housed in an ornately carved wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present lot.
