The canvas is original and appears stable. There is a slight push to the lower edge towards the lower left corner, with some very minor associated loss, and very minor frame abrasion visible along the left edge. There are very minor undulation to the upper edges of the canvas, only visible upon very close inspection. There is light craquluere to some areas, including to the white and grey pigment above the figure's head, towards the upper right corner, towards the right edge just below centre, and towards the lower right corner, with further very minor scattered instances. There is a tiny scuff to the left edge just below centre. There are one or two instances of studio detritus and some light surface dirt in places. Subject to the above, the work appears in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is framed in a painted and gilt composite frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
