with two female figures carrying jars, supporting six lights, on a square base with floral garlands; (pierced for electricity)

Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. Good overall condition. The gilding is slightly rubbed and tarnished There are some chips to the black marble square bases. The gilding would benefit from a gentle cleaning, revealing the original gilding (please see one cleaned branch on one candelabrum). The pair of candelabra is drilled and fitted for electricity. Please note that we do not guarantee the electrical system is in working order, it has to be checked by a professionnal electrician

Catalogue Note

A similar pair of candelabra, representing the same female figures in classical drapery, is illustrated in the work of Ernest Dumonthier, which lists the bronzes in the collections of the Mobilier National and kept at the Ministry of the Navy in Paris.
A suite of four candelabra with additional sconces formerly in the collection of Eugene Fould-Springer were part of the Nathaniel de Rothschild au palais abbatial de Royaumont sale at Christie's Paris, September 19, 2011, lot 6.
