Catalogue Note

Plutarch's Parallel Lives were first printed in Rome in 1470, a compilation of various translations by Guarino Guarini and others, edited by Giovanni Andrea de Bussi; the Greek original was not printed until 1517. The woodcut on a2 depicts Theseus and the Minotaur, and is generally attributed to the Pico Master.
