Catalogue Note

The granddaughter of film pioneers Adolph Zukor, founder of Paramount Pictures, and Marcus Loew, founder of MGM Studios, Jane Loew Sharples spent much of her childhood at Pembroke, her family’s vast estate on Long Island, New York. Producers, directors and stars such as Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Cary Grant drifted in and out of Pembroke like cameos in an epic movie. Although Ms. Sharples would eventually move from New York to settle in southern Arizona, she remained connected with Hollywood throughout her life, counting stars such as Janet Leigh, John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman among her good friends.
