Catalogue Note

In 1978, Marina Bulgari, the granddaughter of Sotirio Bulgari, founder of the Bulgari dynasty, decided to strike out on her own and establish her own brand. Seeking to distinguish her work from the iconic designs of her family firm, she drew inspiration from her Greek heritage, along with architectural motifs and themes from nature, to create instantly recognizable, statement-making jewels.

Signature pieces from Marina B are prized for their seamlessly integrated geometric patterns and colorful gemstones, resulting in bold and playful creations. Her use of ingenuous methods of construction, such as sprung mountings for chokers, as exemplified in lots 115 and 116, as well as her creative color combinations, seen in lots 118 and 119, have resulted in instantly recognizable, inherently wearable designs.
