THE COLOUR OF KASHMIR

A landslide in the mountainous regions of the Kudi Valley, India, in 1880, revealed the finest velvety blue sapphires ever seen by man. This miraculous discovery resulted in a period of intense mining of the original Kashmir mine which due to the severity of the harsh weather conditions and unforgiving landscapes, lasted for a period of a mere seven years. Although a new mine opened for a brief period, the majority of sapphires from the Kashmir region on the market today were drawn from the ground in the short life of that original mine.

Kashmir sapphires have a velvety colour, rich and inviting, a consequence of the silk-like inclusions which disperse light causing the coveted visual effect,

Rare and rightfully prized, Lot 1773 is a fine example that lends genuine importance to any collection it becomes a part of.
