Condition

The canvas is original. There is a faint stretcher bar mark running horizontally across the width of the canvas towards the lower edge. The canvas undulates towards the upper right and lower left corners. There is a pattern of fine lines of craquelure throughout the black pigment, most evident along the stretcher bar mark and to the right of the centre of the canvas. This has resulted in some very minor associated losses predominantly along the lower edge. There is light surface dirt throughout. Subject to the above the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence of retouching. The work is floated within a simple stained wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any further questions regarding the present work.
