Condition
The board appears to be sound. There are a number of very small nicks to all four edges, and also some slight rounding to the upper left, upper right and lower left corners. There appear to be some historic retouchings along the lower edge towards the lower right corner and in the extreme lower right corner. There are some very fine lines of craquelure in some areas of black pigment in the central placard, only visible upon extremely close inspection. There are a number of very light scuffs and scratches to the surface. There are also some slight scuffs in each of the extreme corners. There is some surface dirt and studio matter in places. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals some old vertical retouchings in the green pigment in the left hand of the painting. The existence of the retouchings in the lower right corner is also confirmed. The work is held behind glass in a simple wooden frame.
