Condition
The board appears to be sound. There are fine lines of cracking to the board throughout, which have come through to the paint, however these all appear stable. There are some fine scratches in the lower part of Jonah's tunic with some resultant losses. There are some further small losses in the blue pigment in the sea. There is some studio matter and surface dirt in places. This excepting the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals some small areas of sensitive retouching in the sleeves, and lower section of the tunic, in Jonah's leg, and in the mouth of the whale in the extreme lower right corner. The work is held within a painted frame.
