Description

  • height of vase 18 3/4 in.; 47.6 cm
the faceted sides expanding toward the flat square shoulder and supporting a narrow trumpet neck, each side painted with a figural scene alternately inspired by literature or mythology, the corners of the shoulder painted with ruyi heads, the neck with a continuous riverside landscape, now drilled and mounted as a lamp

Condition

There is a large restored U-formed break to the rim, with associated overpaint extending to the base of the neck. There is a section of restoration to one lower corner and a visible to another corner. There are visible glaze flaws, especially to the aubergine enamels. The surface with wear and firing imperfections. The base drilled for lamping. Mounts at the base and the rim not removed for inspection.
