Description

  • height of tallest 10 1/2 in.; 26.7 cm
comprising a pair of tapered cylindrical jardinières each painted around the exterior with a wide band of foliate lotus scroll interspersed with the 'Eight Buddhist Emblems' between decorative bands at the foot and rim, the base with two apertures and an apocryphal Qianlong seal mark; a pair of deep U-shaped jardinières each with four large roundels enclosing mythical beasts at the exterior, the base with two apertures and an apocryphal Qianlong seal mark; a pair of tapered cylindrical jardinières each painted to the exterior with four roundels formed by pairs of confronting phoenix, the base with two apertures and an apocryphal Qianlong seal mark; a pair of square-section jardinières each with canted corners and set over bracket feet, painted to the exterior with 'Auspicious Emblems' amidst floral motifs and decorative borders, the base centered with an aperture; each jardinière with a conforming blue and white stand

Condition

Painted with foliate lotus scroll: Both jardinières with chips and frits to the rim. Painted with phoenix roundels: One jardinière with a frit to the interior of the foot ring with two firing lines. One stand with some fritting to the rim. Painted with 'mythical beasts' roundels: One jardinière with a firing tear to the center of the base with associated star crack to the base. Both stands with a chip to the footring. Square section: One jardinière with two chips to the interior of the feet, the other with a large chip to 1 foot, and 1 small chip to another. The remaining in overall good condition. All pieces with minor firing imperfections, minor surface wear, and some traces of limescale to the interior of stands.
