Description

  • diameter 16 in.; 40.6 cm
each with deep rounded sides rising to a flat everted rim, the exterior painted in vibrant enamels with a continuous battle scene, the figures variously carrying banners, charging on horseback, or standing with arms ready, all between diaper bands with reserved floral cartouches above and below, the rim with a further patterned band, the interior with five large iron-red goldfish swimming amidst waterweeds at the well and cavetto, the base unglazed, wood stands, 4 pieces

Condition

One with a star crack to the lower third of the body, the other with a hairline just above the foot encircling half the base. Both with surface wear (especially to the interior) and firing imperfections including burst bubbles and iron spots. Both interiors with traces of limescale.
