Description

  • height 16 in.; 40.6 cm
sturdily potted with the ovoid body rising to a short, waisted neck and lipped rim, the sides painted in inky cobalt tones with a band of lappets below four large shaped panels enclosing blossoming peony and lotus in natural settings reserved against a wanzi-patterned blue ground, the motif repeated with other flora at the shoulder, a classic scroll winding around the neck, the base unglazed, wood stand, 2 pieces

Condition

There is a triangular break at mouth restuck with associated losses filled measuring approx. 1 in. across, and an associated short hairline. The rim with another hairline extending into the shoulder and some fritting. The vase with characteristic firing imperfections including a large firing tear to the interior of the neck, as well as scattered discolored burst glaze bubbles overall and surface wearl. The rim is uneven and the potting of the body leaning slightly.
