Description

  • diameter of larger 9 1/2 in.; 24.1 cm
one jar with two shaped panels painted with scenes of scholars, floral sprays dividing the panels, a cloud band at the upright mouth, the base with a double circle; the other jar with a rectangular panel of a mother and son practicing calligraphy opposite a panel enclosing blossoming peony and rockwork, floral sprigs dividing the panels and at the neck, the base with a leaf within a double circle; each jar with two later-added metal handles and a wood stand, 4 pieces

Condition

The one shown on the left of the catalogue illustration in overall good condition with minor firing imperfections including firing tears to the interior base and a minute chip to the outside of the foot ring. There is also minor wear to the surface consistent with age and type.The other (illustrated on the right) is broken into multiple pieces and restored back. Both lacking covers, and with a pair of drill holes on either side to accommodate for the mounts of the later added handles. Please note that this lot includes a stand, frame or other component made from a type of Chinese hardwood, which, if exported, will require a CITES permit to leave the United States.
