Description

One box composed of gold applied on all sides with black and turquoise enamel, with a carved turquoise tablet accented with rose-cut diamonds, opening to reveal a compartment applied with brushed black enamel, gross weight approximately 73 dwts, measuring approximately 3 x 2 x ⅜ inch, with partial French assay mark and maker's mark for Auguste Peyroula, numbered 2806; the other box composed of gold and mixed metals applied on the front and sides with black lacquer, topped with carved malachite within a floral frame accented with faceted pyrite, opening to reveal two compartments and a lipstick holder, one compartment engraved with the monogram 'EWdeC', gross weight approximately 74 dwts, measuring approximately 3⅛ x 2⅛ x ⅜ inch, with Swiss import mark and maker's mark for Auguste Peyroula, lipstick tube missing.

Condition

Both cases in overall good condition. The box topped with turquoise with partial French assay mark for 18 karat gold and stamped 18K. The black enamel in good condition on the top of the case, with a few very small and light scratches, but with extensive scratches on the bottom. The turquoise enamel with one small area of repair, applied with turquoise lacquer, only visible under very close inspection. The carved turquoise tablet is medium light greenish blue and lightly mottled. The 16 diamonds on top of the case are of decorative quality. The compact topped with carved malachite composed of gold, the bottom of the compact applied with mixed white metal. The case interior with Swiss assay mark for 18 karat gold and stamped 18K. The gold and mixed metals with surface scratches and small areas of discoloration commensurate with age and wear. The carved malachite is medium green, with faint banding visible under close inspection. Faceted pyrites intact. Lipstick tube is missing.
