Description

  • The mount: 40.2 cm, 15 7/8  in. long
the blade: hira-zukuri with bo-hi on each side, a su-ken horimono in the hi on the omote, the hamon gunome midare, the nakago with 3 mekugi-ana and yamagata-jiri, mumei the koshirae: the finely detailed sentoku koshirae carved chased and engraved in high and low relief and inlaid in copper, shakudo and gilt with a coiled snake emerging from the base and slithering around the lacquered wood centre, the side with a frog, the fuchi kashira with centipede and butterflies, snake and centipede menuki, silver kozuka

Condition

The blade is somewhat rubbed overall but the intact hamon is visible throughout. The unusual koshirae is well made and in good condition, made of various soft metals and lacquer. Minor losses to lacquer and one small missing ornament to kabuto gane, on the side with the kurigata.
