Condition

The black enamel ground likely added later than original firing. The jar with two swathes of spray consolidation in the area of painted rockwork, likely to consolidate a Y-form crack, the longer branch of which ran from the foot upwards and arced along the shoulder, measuring roughly the length of the body. There are firing flaws and slight over-firing seen in the bubbling of the black enamel, more visible on the cover. The jar's rim with fritting, and with dirt acretions throughout. The cover with two flake chips approximately 3 cm wide to the interior rim, and with an adhered label and red pen inventory number.
