Condition
The following condition report was kindly provided by Alvarez Conservation Services: This pastel and chalk on paper stretched on paper board is in good condition overall. The pastel painting is composed of a primary paper which is wrapped around to the back of a 1/8" thick acidic board and glued at the edges only and on the verso of the board. The paper layer does not present tears, paper losses, or distortions. There is a narrow surface abrasion line 1/8" in from the edge on all four sides from the frame rabbet, and a 1" x 2" L shaped abrasion line in the bottom of the image 3 1/2" in from the left edge. The paper is mildly oxidized from contact with acidic material and a natural process of aging due to light exposure. There is a mild field of approximately five spots of mold which are visible in the lower-center image. Otherwise, the medium shows no signs of drift or loss and is rich and well preserved. For a full treatment report, please contact the 19th Century European Paintings department.
