trefoil handles engraved with Count coat-of-arms, stems and handles chased with flowers and foliage, in a leather case

Condition

In overall good condition. Very legible marks on top and lower bowl, nice engraving. The leather case is associated, probably from the same period, a bit damaged, specially on one side, one hook missing. Unusual shape. Good weight. Minor usual scratches. Very nice quality.

Catalogue Note

The arms are those of a family allied to Jacques Duèze, who was elected Pope (Jean XXII) in 1316. His brother, Pierre, became Viscount of Caraman. His numerous descendants became Carmaing, then Foix-Carmaing.
