Condition

CASE Case in overall good condition with light wear and scuffs. The case in our opinion has received previous professional polish. Some pigment loss and small scratches to the bezel. DIAL Dial remains very attractive. Some loss to the lume indexes. Oxidation to the lume areas overall. Some light dust. MOVEMENT Chronograph operating. The movement is running at time of cataloging, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.

Catalogue Note

The reference 105.002 was first released in 1960, the same year as the launch of the famed reference 2998. Both models feature the caliber 321 movement. The present lot is a transitional model, with a stainless steel case dressed with lyre lugs. This model also features a 'pre-moon' case back, engraved with the original Speedmaster logo.

In the succeeding years, Omega would make an indelible mark on the world of horology as the watch worn to the moon. After extensive tests, the Speedmaster would be chosen to be the watch worn by every astronaut through the end of the Apollo program.

We are pleased to offer the present lot as NASA marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Program. This program achieved unbelievable successes, with a dozen American moon landings between July 1969 - December 1972.
