Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Rolex presentation box. The present lot is in excellent overall condition, with an exceptional ‘Paul Newman’ exotic dial. The printing on the dial is crisp and is complemented by defined numerals and indexes. Furthermore, this piece features an acrylic bezel with tachometer calibrated to 200 units, and an expandable riveted Oyster bracelet.

The Rolex Daytona reference 6241 was produced from the 1966 until 1969, with a slightly wider metal bezel and acrylic insert. Less than 3,000 reference 6241 wristwatches were made, and only a small fraction of them were made with a ‘Paul Newman’ dial. The ‘Paul Newman’ dial is distinguished by its square markers on the subsidiary dials. Originally called the ‘Exotic dial,’ this watch was later renamed ‘Paul Newman’ by collectors when the famous American actor was seen wearing it on a poster for one of his movies.
