Condition

CASE Please note that the bracelet circumference is petite. We encourage potential purchasers to view the piece in person. Case in overall fair condition with light surface wear and scuffing consistent with age and regular use. Some signs of previous sympathetic polish. Lower right lug with some more surface lines. Scratches and scuffs to the case back. Bracelet with heavy scuffing normal to regular wear. Bezel insert with wear. Case with debris overall which may benefit from cleaning. DIAL Dial is even and attractive. Some light is even oxidation to the indexes. Small dot marking to the lume at 5. MOVEMENT Date function working properly. The movement is running at time of cataloging, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. Please note the outer presentation box is slightly worn. Additional Rolex stainless steel Oyster riveted bracelet comes with two extra links, and is missing one end link. Folding deployant buckle stamped 1-71.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Rolex Chronometer Certificate, one Guarantee booklet, additional booklets, and an additional Rolex stainless steel rivet bracelet. Together with a presentation box with outer packaging.  This exceptional timepiece was previously owned by Michael Henry Krouse, a Lieutenant Commander of the United States Navy who earned numerous medals for valor in World War II and the Korean War.  His achievements include receiving the Navy Cross, seven Air Medals, and the Distinguished Flying Cross, an honor given for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight. Mr Krouse later utilized his skills and education as a test pilot, flight instructor, and Scientific Executive for companies EG&G Inc, and Exec Air.

The present Reference 1680 comes not only with outstanding provenance of Mr. Krouse, a highly decorated American hero interred at the Arlington National Cemetery, but is further accompanied by a plethora of original accessories including the presentation box, certificate, and Guarantee booklet which confirms the date of purchase on April 20th, 1972.
