Catalogue Note

Born in Bolton, England in 1970, Smith was advised by his father to attend the Manchester School of Horology. He met his mentor Dr. George Daniels in 1987 who presented his iconic Space Traveller pocket-watch to the students at that time. Roger then said, "Suddenly, my life's purpose was crystal clear - though its path was less defined." After his encounter with Daniels, Roger aspired to become a watchmaker who would create stunning timepieces with exquisitely built and finely finished movements using nothing but his bare hands, in the form of the “Daniels Method”. Smith later became Daniels' only apprentice, and following that he also managed to master 32 trades of British watchmaking to become worthy of collaborating with the great master himself. Smith had learnt much from Daniels' artistry of handcrafting timepieces from raw materials throughout his 20 years of partnership, until Daniels' death in 2011. Together they created the The Millennium' Series in 1998 to celebrate the acceptance of the Daniels Co-axial escapement by the Swiss watch industry. Following the great success of The Millennium Series, Smith established his own atelier in 2001 and created 4 series of collections and special collections such as the Daniels Anniversary, The Great Britain and the Open Dial.

The present lot is a Series 2 timepiece which took Roger Smith three years to develop. This watch features hour, minute, seconds and power-reserve indication with beautifully hand-engraved floral designed dial and a silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals. Today, Smith and his team continue to carry Daniels' legacy and perseverance to construct the most beautiful and exquisite timekeeping instruments. Due to the intricate artistry of his craftsmanship, Smith is only able to produce ten watches each year.

Consigned by a highly important collector, the watch is in like new condition.
