Catalogue Note

Swathed in ravishing diamonds, the Secret Dentelle from Van Cleef & Arpels holds a secret like its name suggests. The mother-of-pearl dial is whimsically positioned beneath the jeweled drawer, allowing its wearer to hide or reveal the time at will.  Secret watches have been extremely popular since 1920s as it was not considered elegant for ladies in polite society to be seen looking at the time. Hence, jewellers often concealed dials in bracelets or necklaces by hinged cover or drawers like the present watch.
