Catalogue Note

In the past, minute repeaters was used to tell time audibly in the dark before the spread of electricity. When the minute repeating lever is activated on the band, the timepiece signify the time through a series of chimes. Today, minute repeater as one of the most complex watch mechanism, is highly coveted by watch collectors for their masterful engineering and beautiful acoustics.

The present Girard-Perregaux Repetition Minute is true exercise of elegance and discretion, together with being an exceptional mechanical creation. Housed in a 39mm platinum case, the finishing of its bezel, smooth round case and stepped lugs are all perfectly executed. The combination of a navy coloured engined-turn centerfield with silvered matte chapter ring on the dial is as pleasant as the rest of the watch. Also, the minute repeater chimes with great intensity. To achieve a beautiful sound that combines amplitude and a pure note, the gongs of each minute repeater must be tempered and tuned individually tuned by a master watchmaker and the process can be arduous. Overall, the present watch remains well proportioned and is a true horology feat.
