Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, instruction manual, an interchangeable solid case back, a setting pin and presentation box. The reference 5004 was first launched in 1996 and has now been discontinued and replaced by its successor, reference 5204 that was released in March 2012 at the Basel Fair. The feature of a 5004 was originally inspired by the profound reference 3970 perpetual chronograph. That said, the appearance of a 5004 can be considered as a 3970 with a split-seconds chronograph function. Although there are many split-seconds chronograph produced today, the manufacturing process in 5004 was very difficult and Patek Philippe could only produce 12 of such references per year.

Unlike any previous “special dials” that were made upon special request from esteemed clients, this watch is truly different because it not only has the application of special numerals or dial color but it also includes a pulsation scale. A pulsation scale can be used to allow a convenient measure of one’s pulse. Once the chronograph function has been activated, after the count of 15 pulsations, the position of the chronograph hands will provide a reading of one's heartbeat. Throughout the years Patek Philippe has produced some incredibly special examples, but this is truly one of the more unique examples known to the market.
