Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, instruction manual and presentation box. PATEK PHILIPPE THE YEAR OF THE DOG

The references that Patek Philippe has released in similar themes are reference 5075, a circular model with an enlarged bezel in 2000, reference 5076, the present rectangular model in 2003, and reference 5077, a circular example in 2007. Themes explored include sailboats, exotic flowers, Venetian masks, tropical fish and birds.

The present set was made in celebration of the Year of the Dog in the Chinese Astrology calendar. The extremely fine and richly coloured cloisonné enamel work exemplifies the best work of Patek Philippe's most talented enamelists.

Unlike Western astrology where the signs last for one month, Chinese astrology signs last for one year on the lunar calendar, characterized by one animal each year.

Each of the twelve animals gets an outing in a repeating cycle every dozen years. There are different varieties with five elements – metal, wood, water, fire and earth. The Year of 2018 will be the first year of the Earth Dog since 1958.

Ranking as the eleventh animal in Chinese astrology, dog is known as man's best friend, is the symbol of loyalty and honesty. According to the Chinese Astrology, one's character is very much associated to the traits for the animal in the year that you are born in. Dog is definitely the celebrity of 2018, symbolising a lucky and diligent year.
