Catalogue Note
Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, instruction manual, an interchangeable solid case back, a setting pin and presentation box. During the 2011 Basel fair, Patek Philippe revamped its highly sought after perpetual chronograph collection by introducing the new reference 5270. The launch of this reference marks a very important turning point in the history of Patek Philippe, as it is the first Patek Philippe’s perpetual chronograph wristwatch to compose of a 100% in-house designed and manufactured movement. With this being said, it is also marks the end of Patek Philippe’s dependence of adopting outsourced modified movements.
To the best of our knowledge, although the reference 5270 had a fairly short production time, there were already two formats of dial made. The first variant can be distinguished by the railroad-type track to the outer ring and a slightly larger “Patek Philippe” signature in comparison to the reference 5970. The second variant was introduced in 2013 and it is accompanied with a tachometer scale, railroad track to the subsidiary dials and a chin at 6 o’clock. Although the difference between both variants is diminutive, the first variant such as the present lot is a more desired choice among collectors. Many watch connoisseur also speculates that it would have a great investment value in the future as it had a shorter production time.
