They were initially made for the Chinese market, with the most luxurious ones created for the Emperor and his retinue. After time, the social elites were also intrigued by the titillating automaton and many wives of Royal Navy veterans would have their own portraits engraved onto pocket watches for their husbands. To date, the erotic watches no longer present people's loved ones with memorable keepsakes. Instead, the excellent craftsmanship as well as technical complications are what underline the cheeky appeal to watch collectors.
